Essig Golf Management - Every Member, Every Guest, Every Time

Print E-mail

Mr. Pete Dye and his dog, “Sixty,” walk the course with the Dye’s Walk Country Club Owners & Golf ProfessionalEssig Golf Management has been bringing golfers top notch course offerings and quality customer service since the early 90s. EGM is in the process of ushering in a new era of golf in Indianapolis with an outstanding collection of courses that are rapidly setting the standard for great golf in Indiana’s largest city.

The group’s mission statement, “Every Member, Every Guest, Every Time,” gets to the heart of EGM’s goal of creating a quality and enjoyable golf environment at each and every facility it oversees.

Heartland Crossing Golf Links, South Grove Golf Club, Hickory Stick Golf Club and Dye’s Walk Country Club are four of the finest golf clubs in the city, and the state for that matter, and are all convenient to downtown Indianapolis.

While the compilation of courses should be expected to live up to the exceptional customer service, professionalism and conditions associated with the Essig name, each has its own distinct personality and feel.

From one of the oldest golf courses in the city to a layout named for and soon to be re-designed by one of the most famous names in golf course architecture, Essig’s holdings are rich in history and tradition and offer the modern golfer a challenging but extremely enjoyable round of golf.

Built in 1902, municipal South Grove Golf Club is one of the most historic layouts in Indiana. The 18-hole course is the closest championship course to downtown Indianapolis. Every spring the old course serves as the home of the South Grove Spring Four Ball, which has kicked off the golf season in Indianapolis since 1948.

South Grove Golf Club

South Grove, whose architect is unknown because of the time period in which it was constructed, continues to be one of the best valued rounds in the Indianapolis area.

From an established layout steeped in local tradition, we move to a private course primed to become the premier club on the south side of town.

Dye’s Walk Country Club is the only private holding of the four. Formerly known as Royal Oaks Golf Club, Dye’s Walk is a classic, mature club featuring a back nine that was the initial design by two members of the elite crowd in terms of golf course design, Pete and Alice Dye.

The course is a challenging 18-hole, par-71 layout that features beautiful scenery, great turf conditions and playability for all levels. Last fall the Club was purchased by local businessmen and golf enthusiasts Brian Benham and Rich Riley who then decided to rename the course in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Dye.

Heartland Crossing Golf Course

Mr. Dye has since agreed to redesign some of his first holes at the facility and will consult on various changes on the front side as well. Perhaps the most highly-rated and recognized member of the group is Heartland Crossing Golf Links. The Nick Price/Steve Smy-ers collaboration is a structural masterpiece consisting of winding fairways, rolling terrain and picturesque ponds and lakes. Heartland Crossing is consistently listed among the top 10 courses in the state of Indiana and has developed a reputation for excellence among those who frequently visit it. Adding to the allure of Heartland Crossing is the facility’s ProLink GPS system, which guides golfers through their experience, and amenities like the beautiful clubhouse and state-of-the-art practice facilities. Overall, this makes a wonderful combination for your foursome, group or special event.

Last, but not least among the group is Hickory Stick Golf Club which could be described as the newcomer to the scene loaded with potential. Hickory Stick is a true Irish links-style layout with run-up greens and rolling fairways. The Tim Liddy design offers a playable challenge from all four sets of tees and is dedicated to giving its visitors a complete golf experience. Behind the Essig team, Hickory Stick continues to enhance your experience.

The club has become one of the three locations in Indiana to utilize the UpLink GPS system which is gladly provided to every riding player at no additional charge. Golfers are also welcome to use the club’s electronic scoreboard for a twosome, foursome or large group.

Hickory Stick Golf Club

The ultra-modern amenities and technology combined with championship-caliber golf courses give the Essig group a lineup that is tough to top.

“I think they are a good choice for all levels,” said Keith Clark who is the head professional at Hickory Stick. “Conditions-wise they are always in great shape and are all top-rated, quality courses. Rankings for Heartland Crossing are consistently in the top 10 and Hickory Stick is working its way to being a premier public course.

“A certain level of service should be expected at each course; everything from a friendly staff, clean carts and playability for all levels,” Clark continued. “We’re after the experience and enjoyment. Of the courses that are open to the public, there is no better value.”
