Heartland Crossing: The Perfect Combination of Beauty,

Print E-mail

Although it’s been open only six years, Heartland Crossing Golf Links is making its mark on the Central Indiana golf scene.

Any golfer who’s played there knows what to expect when they go back. With a striking layout and their unprecedented attention to detail, Heartland Crossing Golf Links presents a delightfully unique view of how the game should be played.

Designed by PGA TOUR standout Nick Price and world renowned golf course architect Steve Smyers, Heartland Crossing combines a true golfing experience with emotion and aesthetics even non-golfers can appreciate. One can almost imagine Price striking precise irons into the large rolling greens, as there is certainly a lot of his game incorporated into the design of the course.

The course presents 18 memorable holes, each contributing to the overall personality and character of Heartland Crossing. In fact, every hole has its own opportunity for success and its own risk of penalty.

Heartland Crossing Golf Links presents unique challenges to golfers of all skill levels. Low-handicap golfers will find ways to work the ball around the course, shaving precious strokes by hitting punch shots to tight pins or knockdown irons to decrease the effects of prevailing winds. The higher handicap player will enjoy playing to spacious fairways and rolling the ball onto greens (one could almost play the entire course using a putter!). Steve Smyers and Nick Price have captured the variety and challenge essential to creating a truly great golf course. Nature’s beauty should be found on all golf courses, however, Heartland Crossing’s liberal use of fescue, prairie grasses and wildflowers is stunning. Bentgrass tees, fairways and greens complement the Kentucky bluegrass rough.

“You feel a truly great golf course. It moves you to alternating heights and depressions. Excites you. Thrills you. Even, sometimes, frightens you. And in the end, Heartland Crossing Golf Links will have challenged the best in you.” said Smyers.

The collaboration of Price and Smyers produced a masterpiece of winding fairways, rolling terrain and picturesque ponds and lakes. Yet for most golfers, the most noteworthy feature will be the bunkers. The large, dramatically shaped bunkers are found on every hole, helping define fairways and protecting greens. As it is almost entirely unencumbered by houses along fairways, golfers enjoy a sense of solitude at Heartland Crossing. Not surprisingly, Heartland Crossing hosts many state events like the 2002 Indiana State Open, and has even hosted a few national events like the 2001 AJGA Junior Classic.

The facility is a perfect choice for outings, combining GPS, banquet facilities, and according to Indygolf.com, “the friendliest staff, two years in a row.” Heartland Crossing Golf Links was also rated one of Golf Digest’s Top 200 courses for service in America. They have a large, well-stocked pro-shop, banquet areas and a friendly, helpful staff ready to serve you. Additionally, don’t hesitate to check out the special tournaments and league play they offer.Amenities are over the top here, as well, highlighted by complimentary range balls and tees for every player in addition to complimentary GPS on every cart. Combine this perk with one of the largest practice facilities in Central Indiana, and golfers won’t find a better value.

When it comes to value, again Heartland Crossing Golf Links can’t be beat. Season Passes for juniors, Twilight Passes and Men’s Club season passes are some of the great opportunities that are available. They have daily and weekend specials and ongoing promotions for foursomes. All golfers will feel they receive more than their money’s worth after a round at Heartland Crossing.

Located just 15 minutes from downtown Indianapolis off State Rd. 67, golfers will be happy to make the short drive to play the area’s best links-style golf course. Easy access for business travelers (only 10 minutes from the airport) makes Heartland a great place to get a deal done. Look for the main entrance to Heartland Crossing just five miles from the I-465 loop.
