Indiana National Golf Club at Swan Lake Resort

The golf crew at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, less than two hours from Indianapolis or Chicago, doesn’t just want you to come enjoy their two great courses that are challenging and conditioned well enough to be awarded 4-Stars by Golf Digest’s Place to Play and picked to host the 2007 and 2008 NAIA Men’s National Championships.

They want you to learn to play well enough to conquer your own home course, or your golfing buddies’ layouts. That’s why their renowned United States Golf Academy has developed a series of opportunities to fit anyone, from any background or level of play, who wants to improve their game.

“Many golfers are overwhelmed by instruction that asks them to drastically change their game,” says Swan Lake Director of Golf Pat Bayley. “What we provide is information and help you can apply to your current game, ‘brush away the tarnish’ so to speak, that will visibly improve your performance in a weekend and teach you how to practice better, which should improve your overall golf experience, likely making you want to play (and practice) even more.”

What separates the United States Golf Academy, under the direction of Steve Harris, from other instructional programs is the degree of passion of the teachers for improving your game, and the plethora of state-of-the-art tools at their disposal.

The genius of the Academy begins with the customization of packages to fit your needs. Though most of their schools run one or two days, they’ll work with you for as long as you’d like, including a unique “unlimited” lesson package that provides more than just lessons, but actual “coaching” whenever you need it throughout the year, from a staff of seven committed teachers, most of them veteran PGA professionals. Those teaching pros have the most high-tech equipment available, from the GASP Advanced Coaching System that will create a CD of your swing that you can learn from anywhere you have access to a computer, to the latest launch monitors and shaft measurement devices to fit you into the best clubs for your improving game, to full-swing simulators that allow you to actually “play” renowned courses all winter in their indoor facility (it even has weekly leagues). And those attending any of the two-day instructional schools will receive three Adams wedges designed to help them overcome the “miss-fits” of their current clubs.

How well does all this attention work? A particular Chicago golfer drives in every week for a tune-up on his game. More than one Indianapolis-area company brings its best clients to Indiana National for a customized “school” at the Academy that combines instruction for players of all skill levels with the chance to play golf together, and develop a unique camaraderie because all of the participants stay on site at Swan Lake Resort.

The fabulous resort is always improving too, adding four log cabins in the woods within the past year that can sleep 8-10 with four bathrooms, flat-screen cable TV’s, Sony Playstations and wireless internet access. Smaller cottages are also available and the main lodge has around 100 various-sized rooms and suites that have been recently renovated. Sam Snead’s Tavern and Grill surrounds you with memorabilia from the golf legend’s eight-decade career and a roaring fire inside, or outdoors under a canopy at water’s edge, while you enjoy their “niblick” appetizers and “chip shot” desserts served in shot glasses.

With the dining amenities and 33,000 square-feet of on-site meeting space, Swan Lake Resort specializes in corporate events and golf outings. Their professional outing specialists, known as “caddie masters” all come from the golf side of the business and know how to best execute your desires for a successful event for four or 300.

Imagine going back to school, at a place that just happens to be a world-class resort with 36 great holes of golf and you’ve got the United States Golf Academy and Indiana National Golf Club at the Swan Lake Resort.
