If it’s possible for a true gem of a golf course to be “hidden” in plain sight, The Trophy Club in Lebanon, northwest of Indianapolis, might just qualify. Less than a decade old, The Trophy Club burst on the scene as Golf Digest’s “4th Best New Publi Golf Course in America” when it opened in the fall of 1998. And it is only improving with age.

“The darndest piece, or the best darn piece, of ground I’ve ever seen,”— legendary course designer Pete Dye has been quoted as saying both about The Fort Golf Resort. When he took on its redesign in the fall of 1995, he only charged the State of Indiana $1 for the opportunity to work with the course’s 238-acres, all of which are encompassed by what is now Ft. Harrison State Park.

Lafayette Country Club (renamed Battleground Golf Club) is open to the public now. Print E-mail

As many of you may or may not know the Lafayette Country Club (now renamed Battleground Golf Club in Battleground, Indiana is open to the public now and since a few of us are residents of Lafayette we had to visit this track. If you have been fortunae enough to play a few private clubs you are probably used to finding a very forgiving layout that sort of makes the membership feel good about their round.

If you have played Coyote this year, you were probably amazed at how well the course has matured the past few years. When they built Coyote they did it right. Large trees were transplanted and the landscaping was first rate. This has helped create a beautiful backdrop for great golf.
