As its name indicates, the First Tee organization is rooted in the game of golf. Developing champion golfers is one long-term goal the organization inspires to, but more importantly, The First Tee is dedicated to cultivating character by introducing its participants to life skills and values such as integrity and honesty through the vehicle of golf.
The First Tee Indianapolis has been active since 2003, but in the fall of 2008 the organization was rebranded with a new board and new leadership. The man at the helm of this empowering organization is Brad Beck, executive director. Beck is based at Eagle Creek, a 36-hole facility on the northwest side of the city and one of the two homes for Indy’s First Tee. Whispering Hills Golf Club, which features a nine-hole course and driving range, is the other nerve center for this non-profit entity.

Course builder Pete Dye has built a litany of diabolical designs during his decades pushing dirt around the globe. Crooked Stick Golf Club, opened for play in 1964, was the first of his legendary creations to garner critical acclaim, and thus retains a special place in his body of work.
At Crooked Stick in 1991, ninth alternate John Daly became the first man to claim a major championship tournament on one of Dye’s courses, winning the PGA Championship by three strokes over Bruce Lietzke and registering one of the most improbable victories in the history of golf in the process.
